St. Joseph’s College, Irinjalakuda opened its doors to the world on 1964. It was “a dream come true” – the dream of the Blessed Mother Mariam Thresia, the visionary pioneer in the field of Family Apostolate. The founding of the College by the Congregation of the Holy Family was an answer to the increasing demands for higher education among young girls in and around Irinjalakuda, the hub of cultural activities, in Central Kerala. Today, the institution has soared to envious heights of eminence, and has been reaccredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) at A grade on 2013.

     The vision of the College, Women empowered and liberated through knowledge, for a brave new world of ideal families, is realized through the mission of Creating an educational environment for the total development of young women, in this globalized e-world, through value based holistic instruction across a wide range of disciplines and mainstreaming a gender perspective in the national development process.

      The college offers 15 UG and 12 PG programs affiliated to the University. UG programs, B.Com with Computer Application, BCA and B.Sc Psychology,BSW were introduced due to high demand from local community. In addition, the college has five Ph.D programs in Mathematics, Chemistry, Commerce  English and Zoology .

     The curriculum is strengthened and supplemented by three UGC supported one year Add-on courses, 30 Vocational Certificate Courses conducted by the respective departments including 20 enrichment courses. Introduction of an extra hour facilitates the smooth conduct of the courses. The College has total student strength of 1660 students who are being trained to develop a positive attitude to life by exploiting their latent faculties and inborn talents. Career Guidance Cell, Social Service League, NSS, NCC, Women Cell, Nature Club etc. help the students to discover their inherent potential. Darsana Counseling Centre aided by the Department of Human Resource Development, New Delhi, addresses the problems of adolescent and adult stress. The services of two full time counselors are available to the students, parents, and the public at large.
