On Quantitative techniques for business research

The Research Department of Commerce organized a Student Development Programme, which was the second programme to be organized as per the MOU signed between St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) Irinjalakuda and Nirmala College Muvattupuzha. 

The SDP titled ‘Quantitative Techniques for Business Research’ focuses on Nature of Data and Scaling Techniques, Measures of Central Tendency and Dispersion, application of Binomial, Poisson and Normal Distribution , Statistical Inference, Application of significant tests- Parametric and Non Parametric, Chi Square Test and drafting the questionnaire for the purpose of analysis. The workshop is held on the online platform via Google meet.

An informal session was held on 23th April 2022, during which the coordinator of the programme, Dr. Suby Baby of Nirmala College Muvattupuzha welcomed the gathering. The SDP was formally inaugurated by the Dr. G.S Gireeshkumar, Principal, Henry Baker College Melukavu and Research Guide (Nirmala College). The programme was presided over by Prof. A.J Emmanuel, Associate Professor and Head, Nirmala College Muvattupuzha. Ms Amritha Thomas, Assistant Professor of St. Joseph’s College offered felicitations on the occasion. The formal vote of thanks was offered by student representative Ms. Amritha S of Nirmala College. The SDP is attended by 150 participants from colleges across the state. They comprise of students from Calicut University, Kannur University and Mahatma Gandhi University.

The workshop which commenced on 30th April 2022 is of 30 hour duration in which sessions have been arranged every Saturday and Sunday from 9.30 p.m till 10.30 p.m. The resource person for the SDP, CMA Dr. V.P Raju is currently working as Associate Professor in the commerce department at Nirmala College Muvattupuzha. A nominal registration fee of Rs. 300 (including the cost of the study material) per participant is charged for the SDP. Study materials have been distributed to the participants to facilitate easy understanding of the concepts taught. During each class, an interactive session of 15 minutes has been arranged to encourage participants to clear their doubts and express their views. This is a unique programme, the first of the kind to be organized by the department.
