An Industrial visit to "Nutricreams Pvt. Ltd.", Ernakulam, was organized by the Commerce Department on 29th of September, 2022. All 64 students of IInd DC BCom accompanied by 2 faculty members  visited Nutricreams Pvt. Ltd. to interact with the Food Processing Industry in order to get a close understanding of the production processes, workforce requirements in respect to machineries used etc.

Students visited Nutricreams Pvt. Ltd around  10.30 am. Students were divided into two groups for the session. First, there was an introductive session by the industry professional. He explained the background of the Nutricreams industry and their position in the market. Nutricreams is an Ice-cream manufacturing industry. They manufacture different flavours and types of ice-creams. They gave information regarding the product launch that is to be conducted soon and their expectations for the product.

Further, the Production Head of Nutricreams Pvt. Ltd conducted a very informative session for us. First, he led us to the Mixing Room. Students were shown how milk was stored in the Horizontal Milk Storage Tank or HMST. Pasturisation is conducted first. Further, mixing the pasteurised milk with butter and sugar is done through two other tanks connected to pipelines running above. All these processes were done with the help of machinery. In this stage, they required workforce only for one part of the process, that is for adding ingredients to the funnel that further connected to the pipelines to mix the ingredients with the milk.

Next, students were led to the fruit processing rooms. Most fruits were imported except for some indigenous fruits such as Jackfruit and Tender coconut. The production manager showed  the Effluent Treatment Plant located some distance away, where they treated the industry effluents before letting it out. He explained  how important it is to treat effluents to minimise environmental pollution and for adhering to the standards set by the Pollution Control Board.

Further, students were led to the packaging rooms. This stage required more workforce. There were people packing the ice-cream that came through machines and labelling was also done here. Finally, students were shown the cold storage. The freezing temperature inside helped store the ice-creams in proper condition.

The session ended around 11.45. The session was extremely useful for  students to get an insight into the various processes of the food processing industry and of human resource requirements in respect to machinery used. The visit to Nutricreams Pvt. Ltd. turned out to be a very valuable experience for all.
