The Postgraduate and Research Department of English celebrated Onam with amazing programmes for two days. Various colourful and delighting events were presented in the auditorium on 31st August and 1 September 2022.

The Postgraduate and Research Department of English celebrated Onam with amazing programmes for two days.  Various colourful and delighting events were presented in the auditorium on 31st August and 1 September 2022. A Surprise flash mob by the III DC students initiated the artistic and cultural fervour of the students and they presented Chendamelam as an integral part of the programmme to raise the spirits at the zenith. Dr Asha Thomas, the Head of the Department and other faculty members were welcomed by the first DC students with the traditional style of procession with thalappoli and chirathu. Mahabali (Ajmila Kunnel, II DC English) as the special guest appeared on the Stage with the Master Ceremony, Celine (1 PG English) to host the programme.  Inauguration of the programme was done by Dr. Asha Thomas by filling Pooppara (organised by Aparana P ( III DC English) accompanied by Kuravayidal (Sandra PS and Henna Rose Johnson of III DC English). Various cultural events were staged by each class of the Department.

An Onam Hamper was presented to Dr. Asha Thomas as an Onam Present to honour the retiring teacher by the students. The Faculty members presented Onappaatu as their cultural event.  Kalaripayattu was the unique and impressive programme presented by Ranjana PH, Edwina Jose, Ascin Geo and Theresa Noby (III DC English) in order to honour Dr. Asha Thomas.  Ms. Anjana Maneesh (II DC English) welcomed the gathering and Sr. Simi (II PG English) offered vote of thanks.

Ravished by Yellow-green combination of dress code for the faculty and traditional wearing for the students, English department made a day conjuration in the campus. The cash Prize of Rs.101 was distributed to the winner of the competition “Guess the Title, Gain the Cash Prize” organised by the Department. ‘Maveli Make a Scene’ was the title of the Programme. Angelina S Kannadan and Sandra R Menon of III DC English were the technical experts of the programme while Sreelakshmi of II DC English and Nelsa Joy of I BA English were the student-photographers of the day.

Chendamelam team got a privilege to present their skills before the film stars on the next day. The select students of all classes of English Department staged various dance events followed by Chendamelam as part of the common programme of Fine Arts. Luscious and flavourful, grand traditional Meal, Onam Sadhya was the major attraction of the second day with ten dishes, red rice and payasam.  III DC students were the coordinators of the programme headed by Edwina Jose and Ranjana P H.  The excess food on that day was distributed to Pratheeksha Bhavan. Ms. Anju Antony and Dr.Sajo Jose were the faculty coordinators of Onam celebrations.
