Pollution: Consequences & Solutions’, a National Seminar sponsored and supported by KSCSTE, undertaken and hosted by PG Department of Botany was
inaugurated on 26.06.2019 at New Seminar Hall, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous),
Irinjalakuda. The programme started with a prayer. Dr. Meena Thomas Irimpan,
Head of Department and Convenor of the seminar, welcomed the gathering. The
presidential address was given by Dr. Sr. Lissy Anto P., Principal, St. Joseph’s
College (Autonomous), Irinjalakuda. Dr. Parimelazhagan Thangaraj, Professor,
Department of Botany, School of Life Sciences, Bharathiar University,
Coimbatore, inaugurated the seminar and gave a lecture on the topic ‘Effect of
Air Pollution on Biodiversity and Human Health’. Dr. Sreekumar V. B., Scientist,
Department of Forest Botany, Kerala Forest Research Institute, Peechi, Kerala, handled
the second session with the topic ‘The Western Ghats: Biodiversity, Issues and
Challenges’. Dr. Linto Alappat, Assistant
Professor, Department of Geology & Environmental Science, Christ College
(Autonomous), Irinjalakuda, Kerala engaged the third session with the topic
‘Breath-taking Pollution’. Dr. Alfred Joe, Co-ordinator of the National Seminar
expressed the vote of thanks. Participants of the seminar included students, research
scholars and faculty from various colleges.
