B A History

BA History or Bachelor of Arts in History is an undergraduate course to study the evolution of human civilization from prehistory to the present times.History is the study of life in society in the past, in all its aspect, in relation to present developments and future hopes. It is the story of man in time, an inquiry into the past based on evidence. Indeed, evidence is the raw material of history teaching and learning. It is an Inquiry into what happened in the past, when it happened, and how it happened.It is an inquiry into the inevitable changes in human affairs in the past and the ways these changes affect, influence or determine the patterns of life in the society. History is, or should be an attempt to re-think the past.History aims at helping students to understand the present existing social, political, religious and economic conditions of the people. Without the knowledge of history we cannot have the background of our religion, customs institutions, administration and so on. The teaching of history helps the students to explain the present, to analyze it and to trace its course. Cause and-effect relationship between the past and the present is lively presented in the history. History thus helps us to understand the present day problems both at the national and international level accurately and objectively.Regular updation of both Curriculum and Syllabus in History is unavoidable because the subject of History has a rapid growth as compared to most of the other social sciences and also being a discipline that touches day-to-day human lives in every society. Accordingly, timely modifications and updations are to be made in the curriculum in tune with latest developments in thought, techniques and methods of analysis and the rapidly changing socio-economic environment.

Certificate course on Craft and Jewellery making

Craft and Jewellery making course was introduced in 2016 to enhance the handicraft skill of the students. 22 students participated in the course. All necessary raw materials are selected for each work. Each and every jewellery design has its own rubber model for making for making replica. The wax is injected in the rubber model & after the temperature cool down, the wax is removed from the model. The wax then used to mold off the cooled wax. There is a separate wax used for each metal type, color & karat. After the tree setup is complete, the liquid investment (POP) is hovered over the wax tree. The wax melts & desired metal is poured into the cylinder in the liquid form when the metal is cooled down the metal tree is taken out. The metal links are connected together after the piece has been assembled. It is measured to confirm that it is of the correct length & the number of stones is correctly based on the order. Then these assembled links are soldered together. Any locks needed are attached as well as any last-minute fitting or touchup is done. Polishing and stone setting was also taught in the course. The faculty was hired from outside to teach the methods

Certificate Course on Course on Employability Skills

Employability is one among the goals of study. It carries great responsibilities and respect. Corporate jobs may offer salary perks, but a good number of youngsters and their parents prefer the government services. In this regard Department of History offers Six months training program, for employability skills under expert teaching faculty is arranged at the minimum cost to the students. The curriculum is designed for magical speed strong, problem solving, concept building and intensive coaching and regular evaluation. The Department in association with Desales Academy, Aluva started Employability skills program in the month of September during the year 2018. 32students participated in the course. Indeed it was a successful programme.

Adventure and Mountaineering

Adventure tourism is defined as the movement of the people from one to another place outside their comfort zone for exploration or travel to remote areas, exotic and possibly hostile areas. Adventure tourism is a type of tourism in which tourist do some adventures activities like as skydiving, hill climbing, scuba diving.

Department of History has connection with tourism. Rather than conventional tourism, Adventure tourism is very popular among young age tourists. In this respect The Department in association with T Quad academy conducted a course on adventure tourism in the year 2020. 44 students participated in the programme. Famous adventure tour organiser Mr. Preetham Menon was the key speaker. Adventure tourism gains much of its excitement by allowing the tourists to step outside their comfort zone. This may be from experiencing cultural shock or through the performance of acts, that required some degree of risk (real or perceived) and physical danger. Historical Site Visit

The students of History visited Thripunithura Hill palace on 22/02/2018. History allows the students to feel like they were part of this vast chain of humanity. They connect us to other cultures. By seeing places from the past in other areas, I am able to relate to those people. The students could see similarities between their culture and archeology. Both of which help the students to feel a deeper understanding of Kerala History. 42 students participated in the site visit. Future generations are in no way guaranteed to experience these places as they are. Responsible travel can provide incentives to save them, or at least their memory.

World Heritage week

World Heritage week was celebrated by the inauguration of Cultuaral and Heritage Museum by Dr. B Venugopal, Honorary Director, Centre for Intangible Heritage Studies SSUS ,Kalady and the Chief Guest was Mr. M.N Noushad, Managing Director, Muziris Heritage Project . Its objective is to make people aware of the rich heritage and also strive for its preservation. Wed organise programs highlighting the significance of ancient monuments and their preservation.Various programs related to historical structures, tour places and cultural and traditional heritage of the country were initiated to celebrate the week.The department celebrated it by organising quiz and painting competitions.

Regional seminar

Regional seminar was conducted by the department on 04/03/2020.Dr Sreevidya led the seminar on the topic Research Methodology in local History. The talk helped the students to select their degree project topics based on methodology. The area of the seminar was

An international webinar on Gender studies

The webinar was conducted on 15-02-2021. It was led by Fr. Gilson Payyapilly. He spoke about the Gender studies form part of a significant shift into interdisciplinarity in academic fields more widely, which is reflected in the issue-based calls of funding bodies, special editions of journals and the growth of interdisciplinary research fields. Gender studies are an integral part of this interdisciplinary movement that offers theoretical and methodological advantages in understanding multiply constituted social worlds and addressing pressing global problems, such as the dynamics of migration, uneven global power geometries and climate change. Not only are most of the big issues in the contemporary world underpinned by social divisions including those based on sex and gender, but also the issues addressed by sexual politics are often a key motor of activism and change. Gender studies are distinctive in their engagement with interdisciplinarity, which have developed though a synergy between thought and activism.
