Comemmoration of Hiroshima Nagasaki
day-2020
2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the detonation of nuclear bombs during World War II in Hiroshima (August 6) and Nagasaki (August 9). The Hiroshima and Nagasaki Memorial Day was observed by the Department of Chemistry, St. Joseph’s College, Irinjalakuda on 6th august-2020 with its message of "Peace" to mark the tragedy of the fatal bombing in 1945. The Department of Chemistry organised a poster-making competition for remembering the little girl named Sadako Sasaki, a survivor of the bombing. Sadako Sasaki was a Japanese girl who was two years old when the atom bomb was dropped near her home at Misasa Bridge in Hiroshima, Japan. Sadako’s message "I will write peace on your wings and you will fly all over the world" is remembered on this day as an innocent victim of war and violence. The Department of Chemistry has organized an Online Intercollegiate Quiz Programme for College Students for reminding the students about the dangers of nuclear warfare and drawing lessons from horrific past for a peaceful future.
