TREKKING CAMP AT NILGIRI

REPORT

Pandiar Hill top is the highest point of trek showcases in the Nilgiri mountain range
with a view of Mukurthi dam below. Trekking in the Nilgiris is a spectacular
experience for trekkers, naturalist and wildlife enthusiasts.
UO Aja Fathim K of St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Irinjalakuda has
successfuly completed all India girls trekking camp held from April 27th to May 3rd
at Nilgiri, Tamilnadu. The camp was started on April 26th , 2023. The camp were
planned in 3 locations. Base camp at Ketti, Staging camp 1 at Ooty and Staging camp 2 at Nanjanad. Nanjanad is a tribal village, 13 kms inside from Ooty. There were local treks through the village to know about the livelihood of the people. They mainly depends on Strawberry and tea plantations. Nanjanad Gov. Tribal Museum Showcases the various tribes of Tamil Nadu.
Ketti pine valley, Sims Park at Coonoor, Kattery dam etc were the treks they had
there. Cultural events were conducted Directorate wise along with AP & T, TN P &
AN, K & G Dte’s. They visit MRC (Madras regimental Centre) at Wellington. One
of the main thing there was the Madras Regiment museum.
And finally, went to Ooty, Staging camp 1. Gov Botanical garden, Rose garden, Ooty toy train etc were the locations there. The climate at Nilgiri aren’t constant. Apart from all, cadets enjoyed the scenic beauty of the Nilgiri mountains and really enjoyed the camp.
