The training partner scheme intended to train the final year undergraduate and post graduate students of the colleges in Kerala called ASAP (Additional Skill Acquisition Programme) was inaugurated in  St. Joseph’s College at 9.00 am on Monday, 22 April 2013, by the college principal Dr. Sr. Anee Kuriakose CHF. The Thrissur District Co-ordinator Mrs.Padmini presided over the meeting. The course Director, Dr. Rani Paul Ukken welcomed the trainees and the gathering. The other trainers, Dr. Ann Mary K Manavalan, Dr. Shali Anthappan and Dr.Sr.Lissy Anto were present on the occasion.

This Kerala government project was attended by a batch of 30 students selected through various stages, from different colleges in Kerala. The programme extended over 21 days, including 3 Sundays. The classes were student-centered, task-based and activity-oriented. The training classes were spread over various sessions as scheduled by the ASAP central committee. The tasks for students included teaching lesson plan preparations and presentations, project presentations and teaching practice sessions. Various skills of the students were tapped by the teaching of the modules by the trainers. During the 18 working days, the classes commenced at 9.00 am and concluded at 8.00 pm. The ASAP Central and District committees provided all support, assistance and timely directions. The Central Quality Central Manager, Mr. C. Madhusudhanan visited the class on 11 May 2013, held discussions and a general evaluation with the students. The District co-ordinators Mr. Nazar and Mrs. Padmini also visited the camp, supervised the preparations and verified the proceedings. The evaluation of the entire programme – the accomadation, the food, the teaching process, the facilities provided, the availability of the latest teaching aids, etc. was held in a prescribed format sent by the Central Committee by Mrs. Padmini.

The APTIS test by the British Council for the trainees was held on Saturday, 11 May 2013. The  test was conducted by Ms. Bharati, from the British Council. The programme came to a close with lunch after the valedictory function on Sunday, 12 May 2013.
