A seminar cum workshop ‘BIO-CON’ was organized by the
Department of Botany, St. Joseph’s College, Irinjalakuda on 12 March 2015. The
seminar was based on the topic ‘Bioconservation and DNA Electrophoresis’ and
was inaugurated by Dr Sr Annie Kuriakose, Principal, St. Joseph’s College.
Inauguration section was handled by Dr Ignatius Antony, Associate Professor,
Department of Botany, St. Thomas College, Thrissur and talked about importance,
need and the several acts pertaining to Forest Conservation. Mrs Bindiya E.S., CMLRE,
CUSAT, Cochin, handled the next session by delivering a talk on DNA
Electrophoresis and a workshop on the same. The final session was engaged by Dr
Suma Arun Dev, Scientist, Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI), Peechi,
Thrissur to share the ideas and findings on DNA Barcoding in Biodiversity
Research. The seminar was very informative and helpful for the students.
