‘Plastic pollution and its impact on natural resources’, a national seminar
sponsored and supported by KSCSTE, undertaken and hosted by PG, Department
of Botany was inaugurated on 13-06-2018 at New seminar hall , St. Joseph’s
college Irinjalakuda. The programme started with a prayer. Dr. Meena Thomas
Irimpan Head of Department and Convenor of the seminar, welcomed the
gathering. The presidential address was given by Dr. Sr. Isabel Principal, St.
Joseph’s college, Irinjalakuda. Dr.A.C Dinesh, Director, Marine And Coastal Survey
Division, Geological Survey of India, Manglore inaugurated the program and gave
a lecture on the topic ‘The Coastal Hazards with special reference to Indian Coast’.
Release of seminar proceedings was done by Dr.G.Madhu, Professor, Division of
Chemical Engineering, School Of Engineering, CUSAT, Cochin and he explained the
various ‘Plastic Waste Management’ in the second session. Dr. S. Sreekumar,
Associate Professor (Retd) Christ College, Irinjalakuda discussed the present
‘Present Status of Environment in Kerala’ in the third session and launched the
project “Go Green, Zero Waste” with the intension of reduction and removal of
plastic in the campus. Dr. BinuT.V Co-ordinator of the National seminar expressed
the vote of thanks.
